SpaceMesh - A New Project in the World of Proof of Space and Time

SpaceMesh - a new oroject in the world of Proof of Space and Time

Our service is primarily dedicated to the topic of Chia – an eco-friendly cryptocurrency operating on the Proof of Space and Time algorithm. However, we closely monitor the development of promising projects that can be mined alongside the Chia cryptocurrency and its forks using a single miner. One such project, for example, is Zephyr, which we wrote about in our previous article. We have also noticed another blockchain, which does not require specialized equipment for its security and, in fact… is not a blockchain at all. But how is that possible?

The SpaceMesh project

Indeed. During our careful observations, we discovered another contender under the Proof of Space and Time banner. The project SpaceMesh, which we are discussing here, is not just another fork of Chia. Furthermore, their commonality lies solely in the consensus mechanism and low energy consumption. The creators behind the SpaceMesh project have set themselves the mission of what they call a low entry threshold. This means that starting your journey with mining this cryptocurrency (SMH) does not require owning specialized equipment. If we own a mid-range gaming computer, we can confidently try our hand. All that is needed is just a few hundred gigabytes of free disk space (it can even be a regular HDD) and a mid-range graphics card. That's it - install the SpaceMesh application and you're good to go. No "catches" whatsoever.

Blockchain, but not blockchain?

Sounds strange, right? This is where the innovation of this project lies. The SpaceMesh network operates based on two protocols that work together in tandem. Their operating principle is quite complex, and we do not want to bore you with an overload of complicated information, so we will simplify it as much as possible.

As we probably know, a blockchain is nothing more than a chain of successive blocks. Each new block is tightly linked to the previous one. Thus, a new block contains information about all the transactions that have taken place so far and additionally points to the previous block, so it inherently contains its data. As more blocks are generated, the chain grows.

The creators of SpaceMesh decided to abandon the chain concept, opting for a block mesh instead. In simple terms, this means that the blocks do not directly point to their predecessors. This happens because at regular intervals (referred to here as layers), nodes are selected to create blocks simultaneously. This means that within a given layer, several independent blocks containing the transaction history are created. Then, before the formation of the next layer, these blocks are combined using an algorithm into one large block.

Where does the Proof of Space and Time mechanism come into all this? As a reminder: in PoST-based projects, nodes generate proofs that they have stored a certain amount of information on their hard drives for a specified time. This "specified time" in the SpaceMesh network is about two weeks and is called an epoch. If a particular node can generate the aforementioned proof in a given epoch, it gets the opportunity to create a block in the next epoch. This means that there is no guarantee that we will manage to generate a block in a given epoch. However, if we get this opportunity, the layer in which this block appears will be randomly determined. That's all for the simplified principle of the entire concept. In reality, it is much more complex, and a more detailed explanation would require a whiteboard and marker.

Ordinary computer or specialized equipment?

It all depends on what we expect. If we assume that we want to mine only SMH and nothing else, then a regular computer is perfectly sufficient. This is a good option for people who want to mine "on the side" and do not take the issue of cryptocurrencies very seriously. But what about users who want more? If we are aiming for specific, certain profits, it is worth considering organizing equipment that, apart from the SpaceMesh project, will be able to handle several dozen other blockchains. This gives us the certainty that even if one of the projects turns out to be a complete flop, the others still have a chance to achieve great success. This, in turn, will translate into more certain earnings. The question is only what equipment to choose and, more importantly, how to configure and program it. During our cryptocurrency escapades, we have found that this is not so simple. However, our team has gained considerable experience, which we would like to share.

Harvey miners as a cryptocurrency multitool

Driven by unceasing questions about the best equipment for mining cryptocurrencies and requests to configure existing miners, we decided to meet our clients halfway. We took two vials: one labeled "experience in the crypto industry" and the other marked "high-quality business-class equipment." We poured everything into one pot and stirred. We named the mixture Harvey.

Harvey is a series of carefully selected and configured equipment designed for mining a wide range of cryptocurrencies. Currently, our miners support several dozen projects based on the Proof of Space and Time algorithm. This primarily includes the cryptocurrency Chia and its forks. Recently, their half-brother representing the Proof of Work algorithm – Zephyr – joined their ranks. With the publication of this post, our clients can count on the implementation of the SpaceMesh project.

The Harvey miners are not just about supporting multiple projects but also about above-average performance that enables the efficient handling of these projects. Therefore, users of our equipment can be sure that they are achieving the highest possible revenues. No more choosing equipment and setting it up. All that's needed is access to electricity and a fast internet connection. We'll take care of the rest.

Summary

It turns out that there are initiatives that want to significantly lower the "entry threshold" into the world of cryptocurrencies. Such a project is SpaceMesh, which has been under our close observation for some time. Almost anyone can start their adventure with mining it and hope that the project will ultimately be a success. For those who prefer certainty over hope, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with our offer of specialized Harvey miners.
